Lincoln, NEB – Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol SWAT Team, with assistance from the Seward County Sheriff’s Office, have safely resolved a standoff in Utica.

At approximately 1:40 p.m. Wednesday, Seward County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call at a residence in Utica. During that initial response, a subject assaulted one of the deputies with a knife. The subject, an adult female, then barricaded herself inside the residence with her child. The woman was threatening harm to herself and the child. The deputy was medically treated on scene for minor injuries.

Troopers, including NSP Crisis Negotiators, responded to Utica to assist. The NSP SWAT Team was also activated. After multiple hours of negotiations, the woman allowed the child to leave the home. The child was safely taken into protective custody, but the woman again barricaded herself in a room inside the residence.

A short time later, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the NSP SWAT team made entry into the room and successfully took the subject into custody. There were no injuries to the woman or the child during this incident. Charges are pending. Additional details will be released when possible.
