Voters in the Cowboy State are heading to the polls Tuesday to select candidates to move forward to the November general election.

The most-closely watched and perhaps biggest race will be for the Republican nomination for the House of Representatives, where incumbent Liz Cheney is facing a strong challenge from Harriet Hageman.

According to a late July-early August voter survey by the University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Survey and Analysis Center, 28 percent of GOP primary voters responding supported Cheney, while 57 percent support Hageman.

Other challengers garnered support of two percent or less, with ten percent saying they were undecided.

UW Political Science professor Jim King says while there has been much talk in national media about Democrats crossing over and likely voting for Cheney in the Republican primary, it’s not an especially large number and the impact will likely be muted.

Races of local note in Goshen County include the 11-person Republican race for two County Commissioner posts, the Republican County Sheriff race and the non-partisan race for Torrington Mayor.
