This is Volunteer Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the time and efforts of those who give of themselves in our communities.

Opportunities abound for those willing to take part in a variety of opportunities to serve others and make our communities a better place to live.

At the Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center, Director Shanna Halstead says her organization can always use help with efforts such as Meals on Wheels, which delivers about 100 meals each weekday.

“That takes approximately 115 driving teams a month, so we’re always in need there. Our Shopping for Seniors, which is done at Main Street Market, we call about 110 people every week and we shop for between 50 and 80 orders, so we can always use help in the store. And we do home-delivered commodities once a month,” Halstead said.

As part of their support efforts, Main Street Market is stepping up to support the Volunteer Center all this week.

Those shopping at the grocery store can make donations specifically to the Volunteer Center to help them continue offering their services.
