Nebraska Game and Parks officials have confirmed two recent surveillance videos from Gering residents do show a mountain lion, but say it’s not known if it was the same cat in both.

Doorbell video from the early morning hours of March 9 showed a mountain lion roaming a yard near Oregon Trail Park, with a similar video capturing a cat west of Gering High School early Sunday morning.

Authorities say a search this past weekend by NGPC and law enforcement was unable to locate the animal in question.

Officials remind residents that mountain lion attacks are rare, and if you spot one in person or capture it on video, you should contact the NGPC or local law enforcement immediately.

According to the agency’s response plan, a mountain lion found within city limits will be killed to ensure safety of the public, if it can be done safely.
