Kimball native Mike Daum is making a move as his professional basketball career abroad continues.

Earlier this week Daum signed to play with a professional team in Italy. The 2014 Kimball grad and former South Dakota State star is in agreement on a deal with Bertram Derthona in Lega Basket Serie A.

For his first two professional seasons he played for Obradoiro, a Liga ACB team in Spain, where he averaged 9.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game over those two seasons. Daum also shot 39 percent on threes and 78 percent at the free throw line in those two seasons with Obradoiro.

At South Dakota State, Daum finished as the 7th all-time leading scorer in the history of D-1 college basketball, totaling 3,067 points. As a redshirt freshman Daum was named the Sixth Man of the Year for the Summit League and then he rattled off three straight seasons being named the Summit League Player of the Year.

For a second straight summer Daum is playing in The Basketball Tournament for The House of ‘Paign, a team primarily made up of University of Illinois alumni. They’ll play their first game in that tournament coming up on Saturday.

That game will be broadcast on ESPN starting at 12 pm MT.

Daum also played for the NBA Portland Trailblazers summer league team in 2019.
