The Lyman man sentenced to jail after more than a dozen dogs were rescued from a filthy camper filled with feces and urine has lost his appeal.

In March, 45-year-old Jaydee Sims was arrested and charged with 21 counts of Cruelty of Animals. The Panhandle Humane Society and local veterinarians stepped in to nurse the dogs back to full health before getting the adopted to proper homes.

In August, Sims was sentenced to a total of 18 months in jail and nearly $3,000 in restitution after pleading no contest to eight of the class 1 misdemeanors.

Sims filed an appeal with Scotts Bluff County District Court, saying the lower court erred by handing down an excessive sentence.

Earlier this month, District Judge Leo Dobrovolny returned a three page ruling on appeal, saying the county court judgement is affirmed, as it did not abuse its discretion in sentencing Sims to his 18 month jail term.

Charges against his wife Sadonya Sims were dismissed in county court following Jaydee’s sentencing.
