KIMBALL- Three years ago, the Kimball Longhorns did not have enough players to field an 8-man roster. Now, they enter the fall with one of the largest 8-man rosters in the region.

Nearly 30 players deep this year, the Longhorns are excited about the future of their football program. Even after finishing last season with a 2-6 record, coach Darrell Howitt was extremely pleased with how the team grew throughout the course of the season, especially with how young the team was last fall.

Kimball loses a chunk of their offensive production from last year, but return junior quarterback Ryker Behrend, their second leading rusher in sophomore Luke Berger and senior center Connor Deboodt. Defensively the Longhorns also return their two lead tacklers with the sophomore duo of Berger and Greg Bingham.

Kimball will compete in the D1-10 district with Bridgeport, Hemingford, Morrill, Perkins County and Sutherland.

The Longhorns open the season on the road at 7 p.m. against Hyannis on Thursday, August 29.
