Driver arrested after hitting occupied house in Scottsbluff

A 60-year-old Scottsbluff man was taken into custody over the weekend after driving his car into a house.

According to a release from Scottsbluff Police, on Saturday at 9:31pm officers, Scottsbluff Fire Fighters, and Regional West emergency medical services were dispatched to the intersection of East 15th Street and 10th Ave to investigate a reported crash between a vehicle and a house.

Investigators determined Braulio Cruz, was west bound on East 15th Street driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe at a high rate of speed when he ran the stop sign at 11th Ave. After crossing 11th Ave the vehicle ran off the road to the left, drove across an empty lot, across 10th Ave, through a fence, and into the home at 1420 10th Ave.

The home was occupied but no one inside was injured. The home received significant damage and the vehicle was totaled. Cruz and a 38-year-old passenger received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Cruz was arrested and booked in at the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Willful Reckless Driving, a Stop Sign violation, and No Proof of Insurance.

Scottsbluff Police were assisted at the scene by Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Deputies.
