BRIDGEPORT- Tuesday night saw three Western Trails Conference foes, Morrill, Hemingford and Bridgeport, face off at the Bridgeport Triangular.

The first matchup of the night featured the host Bulldogs taking on Hemingford. In the first meeting of the year between the two, Bridgeport walked away with the 2-0 victory (25-14, 25-17).

Match two featured PAC/WTC foes Hemingford and Morrill in the second meeting in the last week between the two. Last Saturday, it was the Lions prevailing, 2-1, and Tuesday night saw a repeat of that result with a different score, as Morrill downed the Bobcats 2-0 (25-20, 25-19).

The nightcap brought together Morrill and Bridgeport in another first of the season. Coming into the night, the Lions had only dropped six sets all season, three of which came at the hands of Gering in the first match of the season. The Bulldogs were unfazed by the pedigree of the Lions, winning in straight sets, 2-0 (25-17, 25-17).

The two wins on the night improves Bridgeport’s record to 11-5 on the year under first year head coach Grace Simmons. After the matches, Simmons talked about the importance of picking up conference wins and how the team has progressed in her first year as coach:

Bridgeport will now head to Hershey for a tournament that includes matches against Hershey, Gothenburg and Ainsworth.

Meanwhile, Morrill’s record now sits at 8-3 on the season, with their next match at Garden County Thursday. Hemingford falls to 6-9 and will take on Pine Bluffs in their next match on Saturday.

RESULTS:

  • MATCH 1: Bridgeport 2-0 over Hemingford (25-14, 25-17)
  • MATCH 2: Morrill 2-0 over Hemingford (25-20, 25-19)
  • MATCH 3: Bridgeport 2-0 over Morrill (25-17, 25-17)
