Baseball report: Weekend scores for Pioneers, WESTCO, and Gering

The Western Nebraska Pioneers won two of three games at home over the Gameday Angels this past weekend, closing out the series win on Sunday with a 6-2 win.

Jaden Onaca pitched six innings allowing just two runs while striking out five and walking four. Michael Simien worked three no-hit innings of relief with three strikeouts to earn the save.

At the plate a two hit game for Carson Bevill while Ronan Hella, Cole Wieland, Brody Fahnestock, and Garren Gledhill all drove in runs.

The Pioneers will get Monday off before starting a two game series with the Liberal Bee-Jays on Tuesday.

Zephyrs win a pair on Sunday

The WESTCO Zephyrs got a much needed doubleheader sweep over Bridgeport on Sunday at Cleveland Field, winning game one 10-2 in six inning and then taking game two 12-1 in five innings.

In game one Blake Grasmick tossed the six inning complete game for the win, he struck out six and allowed two runs.

At the plate in the opening game you had a three hit game for Mical Villagrana while Ryan Hinman and Carter Reisig both drove in two runs.

In game two Villagrana scored three runs and drove in a pair while George Schmall and Caleb Burda combined to drive in five. Bridgeport pitchers walked 10 in the game and the Z’s posted the 12 runs with a total of just four hits.

Thatcher Thomalla pitched a five inning complete game, he struck out four and walked three, giving up just one run for the win.

The Zephyrs are now 9-12 and they’ll host a doubleheader against North Platte on Tuesday. We’ll have coverage on 107.3 The Trail and starting at 4:45 pm. First pitch is scheduled for 5 pm.
