Alliance Police Promoting Vehicle Safety with “Lights On” Program

Alliance Police Promoting Vehicle Safety with “Lights On” Program
November 24th, 2021 | Scott Miller

The Alliance Police Department is the first law enforcement agency in the state of Nebraska to partner with the organization Lights On.

With the program, the agency is distributing vouchers to stakeholders in the community including the schools and churches, and when a vehicle is observed with a lighting-related equipment violation, they are provided a voucher worth up to $250 for repairs at a local shop. Funding for the vouchers comes from micro-grants.

Officers are also equipped with vouchers for traffic stops, but Chief Phil Lukens says such enforcement will be safety-minded, as approximately 50% of our students in the school district live at or below the poverty level, and the department does not want to create additional hardships for families this holiday season.
