Shirley Ruppel, 90, of Gering died Saturday, July 13, 2024, at her home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff, with Rev. Andrew Griess officiating. Interment will be at the West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Family and friends may pay their respects to Shirley at a viewing at Gering Memorial Chapel Friday, July 19th from 5-7 p.m. Memorials have been established to Zion Evangelical Church, Options Pregnancy Center, and Broadway Bound Scholarship Fund supporting POYDS Dance Company.

She was born July 20, 1933, in Morrill, Nebraska to Henry and Anna (Rahmig) Uhrich. Shirley received her education in Gering. She was united in marriage to Harold Ruppel on December 30, 1951, at Zion Evangelical Church in Scottsbluff. They resided in Scottsbluff until moving to their present farm where Shirley took on the role of farm wife. She was very devoted to her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Shirley was loved by many in Scottsbluff and Gering community.

Shirley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Robin and Craig Schadwinkel of Gering, granddaughters Shaylah Stephens (Taylor, Harper, and Hadlee) of Gering and Kayleigh Schadwinkel-Hickman (Zach) of Parker, CO, sisters Eldora Knaub (Melvin) of Gering and Connie Duncan of Gering, brother Gary Uhrich (Lucy) of Scottsbluff, brother-in-law Wilbert Ruppel (Marlene) of Gering, sister-in-law Betty Heimbouch (Duane) of Scottsbluff along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Harold of forty- eight years. Along with parents, Henry and Anna Uhrich, and in laws George and Molly Ruppel, Donald and Lois Uhrich, Bob Duncan, Leo and Irene Kampbell, Albert and Rosaline Ruppel, Victor and Dorothy Ruppel, and great grandbaby Stephens.
