On Tuesday the Scottsbluff girls tennis team topped a six team field to claim the title as they played host for their home invite.

Scottsbluff was followed in the standings by North Platte in second while Alliance finished in third place. Gering (Blue team) finished fifth.

Scottsbluff was led by Abby Roberts, who went 4-0 to take first place at No. 2 singles while Aspyn Andreas at No. 1 singles finished first with a 3-1 record.

Scottsbluff also claimed a pair of third places in the doubles competition.

Head coach Hannah Liptac was pleased with the performance as they won they won their home invite for a second straight year.

“Not only did our varsity deliver a solid performance today to edge North Platte by one point for the win, but also due to the reschedule we filled one team with our JV players, who played hard all day long today. We are looking forward to the final stretch of the season, with a lot of great tennis still ahead of us.”

Gering coach Ron Swank said they were happy to be able to field two teams for the invite and overall were pleased with the results.

“Jaylei Cervantes lead the way, for the blue team, with a third place medal in two singles going 3-1 on the day. Aria Schneider started out slow but came on strong winning her last two matches to finish at 2-2 for fifth place. Her second win was a hard-fought battle with fellow teammate Ashlynn Feil, who finished sixth for the Gold Team.”

Both teams will be in McCook for action this weekend.
