On Thursday afternoon at Bayard High School it was senior Lexi Fiscus realizing a dream come true as she signed to play basketball at Central Community College in Columbus, Nebraska.

“Yeah I’ve always wanted to (play college basketball) and as it’s gotten closer it’s become more real to me. I’ve watched my cousin, she played in college, and I always just knew I wanted to do that but I didn’t know if I quite had the skills to do it but as it’s gotten closer it’s definitely gotten more real for me to realize I can do it.”

This past season was a big year for the Bayard girls as they finished with a 22-4 record with an appearance in a district final and Fiscus was a big reason why they had the success they did. She averaged a team high 14.2 points per game while also averaging 5 rebounds per game.

Bayard coach Colton Ehler has been with the program for three years and knew right away that Fiscus was a hard worker and that’s a big reason she’s arrived at this opportunity.

“I could tell right away she works hard and that hard work pays off no matter what you do. She really just developed her game that she was here and it got her to this point. So I’m just really proud of all the hard work she’s put and I think it just shows that if you put in the work and put in the time that good things will happen.”

Fiscus says coming through Bayard schools and being a student-athlete has been a big part of her journey to this point.

“It’s been great. I’ve had had some really great friends being here and we’ve got really close. It’s just been a good experience being here.”

We’ll have more on Lexi Fiscus signing with Central Community College to play basketball on Monday’s edition of KNEB.tv News.
