WSC Women’s Golf Picked 5th in NSIC Preseason Poll

Wayne, Neb. — Wayne State College was voted to finish fifth in the 2024-25 NSIC Women’s Golf Preseason Coaches’ Poll released Friday morning by the league office in Burnsville, Minnesota.

WSC received 81 points in voting conducted by league coaches and returns three starters and six players from last year’s team that finished fourth at the NSIC Championships.

Defending NSIC champion Augustana was selected as the team to beat in the NSIC this season collecting 119 points and nine first-place votes with Minnesota State second at 108 points and two first-place selections. Winona State edged Sioux Falls 91-90 for third place with Wayne State fifth at 81 points.

Concordia-St. Paul was sixth at 80 points and the remaining first-place vote followed by Southwest Minnesota State (50), Minot State (45), University of Mary (43), Minnesota Crookston (39), Bemidji State (27) and MSU Moorhead (19) rounding out the coaches’ poll.

Wayne State junior Saffire Sayre was selected as the Wildcat Player to Watch in the NSIC this season. A graduate of West Des Moines Valley High School in Iowa, Sayre is the top returning player for WSC after averaging 81.32 last season with two top-10 finishes. She tied for fifth at the Nebraska Intercollegiate Invite with rounds of 78 and 82 (160) and tied for eighth at the Walsh/Saddlebrook Spring Kickoff in Florida with a 54-hole score of 240 (81-79-80).

Wayne State opens the 2024 season on Monday and Tuesday, September 9th and 10th at the Battle at Bayside in Brule, Nebraska.
