WSC Softball falls to Minot State twice

Minot State would sweep Wayne State Softball on Saturday night in Sioux Center, Iowa by scores of 2-0 and 10-2. Minot State moves to 9-7 on the year with a 4-0 record in the NSIC. The Wildcats fall 4-22 on the season and 0-2 in the NSIC. 

GAME ONE: MINOT STATE 2 WAYNE STATE 0

Minot State would defeat Wayne State in the first game 2-0. Minot would take the early lead in the game scoring off an early Wildcat error to go up 1-0. The Wildcats would see Jordyn Klein get a double for the ‘Cats in the first but the Beavers would remain up 1-0 after one. The Beavers would extend their lead following an RBI double from Brooklyn Morrison to go up 2-0. Wildcats would leave two on base in the third after a pair of walks from Lillie Timm and Emilee Marth. Wildcats would have a pair of hits in the fourth inning with Lauren Laudick and Hayley Murphy each racking up a single for the ‘Cats. Wildcats would leave one on in the sixth after Louisa Stowman singled through the right side. But Minot State would hold on to win the game 2-0. 

Minot State would record two runs on five hits in the win while Wayne State recorded zero runs on four hits and one error in the loss. 

Sami Felt would be the losing pitcher for the Wildcats and move to 1-9 on the season. Klein recorded a double for WSC while Stowman, Laudick, Murphy and Mary Krystofiak would all record singles in the loss for WSC. 

GAME TWO: MINOT STATE 10 WAYNE STATE 2

Minot State would start off the second game with a pair of runs on a pair of hits in the first to build the early 2-0 lead in the second game of the night. Wildcats would leave one on after a Klein single in the first but remain down 2-0 at the end of one. The Beavers would tack on another run in the second following a Morrison single up the middle extending their lead to 3-0. MSU Extended the lead in the fourth to 4-0 following an RBI single to left field by Abbey Kelley. In the fifth, the Beavers would score three more runs on four hits to extend the lead out to 7-0. In the bottom half of the inning, Murphy would double out to center field to open the inning before going on to score the Wildcats first run of the game and make it 7-1. Marth would get an RBI single up the middle to bring in a second run in the inning making it 7-2 after five innings. Murphy would get her second hit of the game in the sixth, but get left on base keeping the score at 7-2 heading into the final inning. Beavers Brooklyn Morrison would have a three-run homer in the seventh to extend the lead to 10-2. Jordyn Rochholz would get a single to open up the bottom half of the seventh inning, but it would be the final hit of the game for the ‘Cats as Minot State would go on to win the game 10-2.

Minot State would record 10 runs on 13 hits and one error in the win while Wayne State scored two runs on seven hits and two errors in the loss. 

Grace Lucka was credited with the loss and falls to 3-4 on the year. Sophie Stuart and Callie Carraher would pitch in relief for the ‘Cats. Murphy was the leading batter going 2-3 from the plate and scoring one run. 

Wildcats will next be in action on Friday, March 29th when they travel to St. Cloud State and on Saturday, March 30th at Minnesota Duluth.
