The Wisner-Pilger Volleyball Team defeated Tekamah-Herman 2-0 in the 1st round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Clarkson/Leigh on Thursday night before falling 2-0 to the host Patriots that same night. The Gators then turned around and fell 2-0 to North Bend Central, but beat Howells-Dodge 2-0 at the Tournament in Oakland on Saturday.
Jeff’s Tekamah-Herman Recap:
The Gators won set one 25-20 and set two 25-16. Emerson Bellar had 8 kills while Haley Kneifl totaled 10 digs. Ramsey Arduser added 7 digs and 8 set assists while Sydney Porter totaled 12 set assists.
Jeff’s Clarkson/Leigh Recap:
The Patriots won set one 29-27 and set two 25-11. Charli Jacobs had 11 digs while Hannah Grenier notched 10. Porter dished out 9 set assists.
North Bend Central Recap:
NBC won set one 25-9 and set two 25-16. Grenier tallied 7 digs.
Jeff’s Howells-Dodge Recap:
The Gators won set one 25-23 and set two 25-18. Jacobs had 11 digs while Porter totaled 10 digs and 14 set assists. Kneifl recorded 8 digs while Grenier chipped in 7.
Jeff’s Riverside Preview:
Wisner-Pilger (12-18) hosts Riverside (18-9) Tuesday night in the regular season finale. The Chargers swept Archangels Catholic 3-0, but lost 3-2 to Central Valley in the Goldenrod Conference Tournament Saturday.
Jeff’s Take on the Match:
I actually like the Gators to win this one. Riverside has played a lot of smaller schools, and Wisner-Pilger is the biggest school they’ve played all year. That and the match is in the Swamp, a place the Chargers are unfamiliar with. That and it’s the final ever home match these Seniors will play, and I just can’t see the Gators being denied for those reasons. It would be good for these Seniors to win their last ever match at home, and I think they will make it happen come Tuesday night. The East Husker Conference has prepared Wisner-Pilger for a match like this, and I look for it to pay off in a big way for the Gators.
