West Point Juniors Suffer Heartbreaking Loss in Class B Junior Legion State Tournament Semis

The West Point Post 70 Junior Legion baseball team lost 4-3 in heartbreaking walk-off fashion in nine innings to Lincoln Christian Brester Construction Post 3 in the semifinals of the Class B State Tournament in Valley on Monday night in a game aired on 107.9 The Bull.

Isaac Guenther pitched a perfect game through six complete innings, and West Point was three outs away from claiming a 2-0 win before Lincoln Christian scored twice in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 2-2 and sending it into extra innings.

Neither team scored in the 8th inning.

West Point regained the lead in the top of the 9th inning when Bryce Popken scored on an RBI single from Mason Toelle, and the score stood 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th.

The game ended when Lincoln Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th, giving them the 4-3 win, advancing to the final day of the tournament on Tuesday and eliminating West Point from the competition.

Isaac Guenther pitch eight complete innings for West Point, allowing two runs on four hits, a walk, two hit batters and three strike outs. Luke Guenther finished the game pitching in the ninth.

Mason Toelle and Mav Smith each recorded RBI singles for West Point. Luke Guenther, Elliot Reeson and Colby Anderson each had a base hit as well.
