Wayne State Softball splits Doubleheader at Bemidji State

Junior Grace Lucka fired a complete game three-hitter in the second game, leading Wayne State softball to a 9-1 win at Bemidji State after dropping the opener 2-0 in Northern Sun Conference action Sunday afternoon in Bemidji, Minnesota.  WSC is now 7-33 and 3-13 in the NSIC while BSU is 10-31 and 4-14 in conference play.

The opener saw Bemidji State limit the Wildcats to just four hits in a 2-0 victory for the Beavers.

BSU scored single runs in the second and fifth innings.  Wayne State had two of their four hits in the seventh inning to put a pair of runners on base but could not score.

Jordyn RochholzLillie TimmMary Krystofiak and Dylan Sweeney each singled for WSC in the opener.

Junior Sami Felt fired a complete game in the circle, allowing just two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

The second game saw Lucka shine in the circle with a complete game three-hitter while the Wildcat bats came up with nine hits while taking advantage of six Bemidji State errors to collect a split with the 9-1 win.

WSC opened the scoring with two runs in the first with Lillie Timm’s RBI single scoring Jordyn Klein (single) with the first run of the game.  The second run was on a sacrifice fly by Mary Krystofiak.

The ‘Cats took a 3-0 lead in the second when Lauren Laudick tripled down the right field line and scored on a wild pitch.

WSC added two more runs in the third for a 5-0 lead.  Mary Krystofiak and Sweeney opened the frame with singles and later scored when Hayley Murphy reached on an outfield error by the Beavers.

After BSU scored once in the bottom of the third, WSC put the game away with a four-run fourth for a 9-1 lead.

Sweeney delivered an RBI double that scored Timm, who singled.  Murphy reached again on an error that brought home two Wildcat runs while Sweeney scored the final run of the inning when Laudick reached on an error.

Four Wildcats had multi-hit games as Laudick was 2 for 3 with a triple and RBI.  Sweeney was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored while Timm and Krystofiak each had two singles.

Lucka improved to 5-7 on the season with a stellar effort in the circle, firing a complete game and allowing just three hits and one run with two strikeouts.

Wayne State visits Augustana Wednesday afternoon for an NSIC doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
