What could be better than an antique tractor? How about an antique tractor engine that churns homemade ice cream!

On display in Holdrege, Nebraska, last week, was a John Deere 1.5 horsepower Model E hit and miss engine. The engine powered a wagon-mounted freezer to make homemade ice cream.

Jeremiah Johnson, owner and president of Central Valley Irrigation in Holdrege, brought the setup out for the company’s open house on September 11.

Johnson and his family near Wilcox have a deep love for antique tractors, especially Oliver tractors, so the wagon-mounted freezer was a perfect fit.

Johnson’s setup makes five gallons of ice cream at a time.
