Governmental bodies and municipalities are working on their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. Property valuations were just released and discussed at the Washington County Board of Supervisor’s meeting Tuesday. Board member Steve Kruger says the valuations were up 107 percent:

A budget hearing will be after the last meeting this month.

The funds used to house prisoners before the Washington County Justice Center was built were in the thousands of dollars each month. Now other counties are paying similar amounts to house their prisoners at the Washington County Facility. In Sheriff Mike Robinson’s update to the county board Tuesday, July revenues for housing prisoners from other counties came to over 104 thousand five hundred dollars. Of that amount, over 60 thousand from Lancaster County, 26 thousand from Dodge County, with smaller amounts from Otoe, Saunders, Fillmore and Burt Counties and the Omaha Police Department.

Elements of the Nebraska Legislature are wanting to consolidate county and district courts in the state. Washington County District Court Clerk Susie Paulson addressed the board of supervisors Tuesday on the matter, saying this isn’t the first time the matter has been brought forth:

NACO, THE National Association of Counties is an association of county officials. Paulsen says the potential change would minimalize the local court and increase the state’s authority over courtrooms.
