UNO Volleyball falls to Wichita State at Shocker Classic

WICHITA, Kan. – Omaha volleyball (2-9, 0-0 Summit) fell to Wichita State Saturday in a thrilling five-set battle to close the Shocker Volleyball Classic held over the past three days. In the second set, Omaha’s Shayla McCormick became the 22nd Maverick to join the 1,000 kill club.

Wichita State won the match 19-25, 25-21, 31-29, 17-25 and 15-13.

Omaha started off strong in the opening frame with a sideout of percentage of more than 60 percent. The Mavericks took a six-point lead at 22-16 and didn’t look back to win it 25-19. The Shockers had nine attack errors in the first.

The Mavericks would also overpower the Shockers in the fourth set, holding the host team to just 17 points after a back-and-forth 31-29 third.

Omaha looks ahead to conference play beginning on Thursday, Sept. 26 as the Mavericks welcome North Dakota to Baxter Arena at 7 p.m. CT.
