FARGO, N.D. – For just the seventh time in program history, the Mavericks ended a game in a tie as the umpires called today’s game at North Dakota State after eight innings due to rain, leaving the score at 2-2.

Despite the unusual outcome, the Mavericks will remain in second in the standings at 14-24-1 overall and 12-8-1 in the Summit League, while the Bison also stay put in third place at 13-24-1 and 9-8-1 in league play.

Innings 1-4
It was a textbook pitchers’ duel through the first four innings today as Harrison Kreiling and Landon Koenig each shut out the opposition early on. Kreiling allowed just one hit during this span while striking out five. NDSU had a chance to take the lead in the top of the second after loading the bases with no outs, but a Kreiling strikeout and a 4-6-3 double play kept them off the board.

Innings 5-8
Omaha broke the stalemate in the top of the fifth as Matt Goetzmann hit a hard chopper to left that got past the third baseman and allowed Cardel Dick to score from second. Following a 1-2-3 fifth inning, Kreiling ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth as a pair of walks and a double allowed the Bison to take a 2-1 lead. The Mavericks would immediately tie it up again the next inning on a bloop single from Tyler Bishop to make it 2-2.

After getting all three outs in the bottom of the sixth to limit NDSU to just the two runs, Luke Gainer stayed in to finish off the game as the rain started to really come down. He managed to keep the Bison from scoring in the next two innings, capping off both with a strikeout, before the umpires made the decision to call the game after eight innings.

Inside the Box Score
With his hit in the fifth, Goetzmann extends his hitting streak to 11 games.

It has now been 10 straight games since a Maverick starting pitcher has been charged with a loss.

On Deck
The Mavericks continue on the road next weekend when they head down to Tulsa, Oklahoma take on Oral Roberts for the second time this season starting Friday at 6 p.m.
