Two-Vehicle Fatality Accident Reported Saturday Night Near Uehling

A two-vehicle fatality accident happened near Uehling in Dodge County on Saturday night.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:37 pm, authorities responded to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 77 at County Road D, two miles south of Uehling.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a Dodge Durango driven by 50-year-old Julia Johnson of Malmo was westbound on Country Road D and failed to stop at the posted stop sign on Highway 77.

A jeep Compass, which was southbound on Highway 77 and driven by a 15-year-old from Omaha collided with the Durango.

The collision caused both vehicles to enter the west ditch of Highway 77. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles. Seatbelts were in use by all occupants of the vehicles.

The drivers and passengers of both vehicles were transported to medical facilities.

One of the Jeep’s occupants was transported from the scene by medical helicopter to Omaha.

Another passenger in the Jeep, 72-year-old Dorothy Norgard of Omaha, was transported by Hooper Rescue to Methodist Fremont Health, where she passed away.

Julia Johnson was cited for violating the stop sign and careless driving.

The Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene to conduct an accident reconstruction.

Also assisting at the scene were the Hooper Police Department, the Hooper, Oakland, Uehling and Winslow Fire Departments as well as the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors.

The accident remains under investigation.
