Season Ends for West Point Seniors

WEST POINT – The season came to an end for the West Point Post 70 Senior Legion baseball team on Tuesday, as they lost 9-8 to Columbus Lakeview Bank of the Valley Post 283 in the semifinals of the B5 Area Tournament in West Point.

West Point started the game in a big way, taking a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

Columbus Lakeview answered by scoring seven runs in the second inning to lead 7-5.

Lakeview then added two more runs in the third inning, increasing their lead to 9-5.

West Point was able to make the game close, adding three runs in the fourth inning, and Lakeview’s lead was cut to 9-8.

Neither team scored the rest of the game, and 9-8 would be the final score in favor of Columbus Lakeview.

West Point scored its eight runs on four hits.

Lakeview scored nine runs on 10 hits.

The season comes to an end for the West Point Seniors with the loss.

Columbus Lakeview advanced to face Wayne for the B5 Area Championship later Tuesday night.

Wayne won that game 2-1 and now moves on to the Class B State Tournament which starts this weekend in Holdrege.
