Scam involving imposter of Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported
June 11th, 2024 | Connie Green

Scammers never cease, they just rotate their tactics. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving calls from citizens about someone purporting to be a sheriff or sargent, claiming there is a warrant or court date and they have to go get gift cards to pay a fine. Specifically Walgreen’s gift cards. Washington County Sheriff Mike Robinson says gift cards are not an acceptable means of paying fines or fees in the judicial system, the sheriff’s office does not call you if you have a warrant or pending court date, and, the sheriff says, those are not actually Washington County employees calling – they are scammers. Just hang up – call the non-emergency line at 402-426-6866 if you do have questions. That’s 426-6866.
