PENDER – The Pender Post 55 Senior Legion baseball team earned their spot in the Class C State Tournament by defeating Wakefield Post 81 by a score of 9-4 in the C2 Area Championship on Tuesday night in Pender.
Wakefield led the game 1-0 after the first inning and 2-1 after the second.
Pender scored a run in the second inning and four runs in the third, taking a 5-3 lead.
Pender increased its lead to 8-3 after scoring three runs in the fourth inning.
Both teams scored once in the fifth inning to make the score 9-4 in favor of Pender.
That would go on to be the final score.
Pender scored nine runs on six hits.
Wakefield scored its four runs on three hits.
Pender wins the C2 Area Tournament Championship and earns a spot in the Class C State Tournament, which starts on Saturday in Wakefield.
Wakefield will also participate in the State Tournament as the host team.
