Northeast sweeps Home Triangular matches

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team hosted a triangular with Des Moines Area Community College and York University JV Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks swept both showdowns by final scores of 3-0.

Northeast (16-10, 4-2 ICCAC) and the Bears competed in a wild first game Wednesday as the Hawks snuck out a 35-33 victory in set number one. Shaylyn Safranek (Merna, Neb.) led the way with 30 assists while Katy Jones (Hartington, Neb.) and Brooklyn Wiese (Loomis, Neb.) each had an ace serve.

The second contest of the match saw Northeast dominate the Panthers as they took the sets against York JV 25-12, 25-11 and 25-9. Safranek added 27 more assists to bring her season total to 471. The Hawks will now head to Columbus, Nebraska for four more games on the schedule this weekend.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the two games today:

“Very proud,” Schultze said. “They came out ready to go against DMACC. We really needed that win to get another one in the conference. We finished against York, and I was able to get a lot of girls in. They stepped up and did well. Glad to get two wins.”

Schultze on the weekend ahead:

“We have to be ready,” Schultze said. “There will be some tough games. I think if we play like we did against DMACC, we’ll be okay.”

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will hit the road for a doubleheader beginning with Highland Community College at 5 p.m. Friday followed by a matchup with Central Community College at 7 p.m. in Columbus.
