Northeast Baseball earns win over Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team began their weekend series with Marshalltown Community College Friday in Marshalltown, Iowa. The Hawks took the single game by a final score of 12-4.

Northeast (22-14, 9-4 ICCAC) jumped ahead in the showdown 2-0 in the second inning and never looked back as starer Gabe Rodriguez (Thornton, Colo.) was solid on the mound, tossing five innings and striking out five Tigers batters. Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.) had a giant day at the plate as the freshman tallied three hits and four RBIs to singlehandedly match the run total for Marshalltown by himself. Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.) blasted a home run in the sixth inning to ensure that the Hawks will have the chance to go for another series victory tomorrow.

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on the triumph and going for the sweep tomorrow:

“I thought we had a better approach today and did a better job of attacking fastballs,” Clapp said. “When we do that, good things happen. Tomorrow, we need to do the same and play clean baseball.”

The Hawks will finish their series with Marshalltown Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday in Marshalltown, Iowa.
