The North Bend Central Volleyball Team swept Adams Central 3-0 in the first round of the State Tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena last Wednesday afternoon in a match aired on 107.9 the Bull before getting upset 3-2 by Gothenburg in the State Semifinals Friday afternoon in another match aired on the Bull. The Tigers then lost 3-0 to Minden in Saturday morning’s 3rd place match at Lincoln North Star.

The Tigers won the Adams Central match 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.

Josie Cleveringa had 13 kills to lead NBC. Kaitlyn Emanuel and Lindsey Emanuel added 8 kills each. Kathryn Gaughen recorded 31 set assists.

North Bend Central won sets one and two 25-17 and 25-22 over the Swedes before losing set three 26-24, set four 25-15, and set five 15-10.

The Whippets won set one 25-22, set two 25-19, and set three 25-23.

Tough way to go out for the Tigers.

North Bend Central’s season ends at 31-3.

The Tigers say goodbye to Kaitlyn Emanuel and Brooklyn Shaw.

Two seniors who will be sorely missed no doubt.

Key returners for next year for North Bend Central include Lauren Sterup, Cleveringa, Lindsey Emanuel, Jayla Van Ampting, and Gaughen.

The Tigers had a golden opportunity to win State this year, and I thought they were going to.

I’m still unsure and in shock about what happened and took place in the Gothenburg match.

I was not expecting North Bend Central to lose that.

It had to be tough for the Tigers not to win State, but it is what it is.

It was still a great season for North Bend Central, and the Tigers should be very proud of the year they had.

North Bend Central should be good once again next year.

This year was a missed opportunity for a State Championship, but I’m sure the Tigers will have more opportunities in the future.
