Morningside Volleyball sweeps Siouxland Tournament Matches Saturday

NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – Morningside’s women’s volleyball team earned two more three-set sweeps on Saturday at the Siouxland Volleyball Tournament, hosted by the Siouxland Sports Academy.

In the afternoon, the Mustangs swept York (Neb.) by set scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-20.

The Mustangs (11-2) hit .320 against York, including an even .500 clip in the first set.

Sydney Marlow led the Mustangs with 16 kills, while Claire Wilson added 12 to her total. This week’s Great Plains Athletic Conference Attacker of the Week hit .579 in the match.

Kyla Dyrstad and Aleksandra Dalach had 21 and 20 assists. Defensively, Marlow had 12 digs, and Aureana Bernales had 11.

Adelyn Harris had 3.0 total blocks in the win.

The Mustangs opened up Saturday play with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-17 sweep over Mayville State to earn their 10th win.

Marlow and Miller both recorded double-doubles, as Marlow had 12 kills and 11 digs, while Miller had 10 kills and 11 digs.

Wilson also had 10 kills, as part of the Mustangs’ 50 total.

Dalach and Dyrstad combined for 40 of the Mustangs’ 47 assists.

Four Mustangs had double-digit digs: Bernales (14), Miller and Marlow (11), and Dyrstad (10).

The Mustangs collectively hit .254, which included a .421 clip in set 3.

The longest rally the Mustangs had in the match was five, and that happened in the first set. Down 5-1, the Mustangs quickly took the lead there with an Harris block, a Wilson kill, a Harris kill, a Marlow ace, then a kill from Miller.
