Morningside Volleyball sweeps Mount Marty

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Morningside University women’s volleyball team started off a two-match home weekend series on Friday with a four-set win over Mount Marty.

The Mustangs (16-6, 4-3 GPAC) won by set scores of 25-10, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-23.

Morningside hit .407 in both the first and third matches. It closed off the first set with a four-point rally, highlighted by two service aces from Sydney Marlow.

In the third set, the Mustangs led 15-5, including a 5-0 start. Payten Lode – who led the Mustangs with 15 kills – clinched the set with one. Lode also hit .306.

Set No. 4 was tight late, but the Mustangs pulled through with a kill by Nienke van Drunen and an assisted block by Claire Wilson and van Drunen.

Marlow had 13 kills on the night, while Wilson had nine.

Kyla Dyrstad topped the Mustangs with 23 assists, followed by Aleksandra Dalach with 19.

Quinn Groves led the Mustangs’ defense with 17 digs; Marlow had 12.

Adelyn Harris and Wilson both had 4.0 total blocks.
