Morningside Volleyball sweeps Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb. – The Morningside University women’s volleyball team won its 15th match of the season Saturday with a three-set sweep over Hastings.

The Mustangs (15-6, 3-3 GPAC) won by set scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-23.

The first set was the strongest for Morningside, as it had 16 kills and hit .282. After being down by four points, the Mustangs scored seven straight points to quickly take the lead and eventually the set.

Three different Mustangs – Claire WilsonPayten Lode, and Nienke van Drunen – earned kills during that rally, while Kyla Dyrstad had a service ace, one of three she had on the day.

During the second set, Morningside went on two separate five-point rallies, including at the end of the frame. Hastings had three hitting errors while Lode and Aleksandra Dalach collected a kill.

The third set was tied at 23-23, but van Drunen and Wilson ended it with kills to clinch the road match.

Lode led the Mustangs with 13 kills, followed by Wilson with eight. Morningside hit .188 throughout the match.

Dyrstad had a team-high 18 assists, while Dalach had 17.

Quinn Groves led the defense with 16 digs, while Marlow had 12. Lode, van Drunen and Marlow all had a solo block.
