Fremont, Nebraska – The Fremont Moo wrapped up its five-game series with The Nebraska Prospects Sunday, at Historic Moller Field. Omaha native Gage Ingram tossed eight solid innings leading Fremont to an 8-1 win.
After struggling to put runs on the board Saturday night, Fremont got going in the bottom of the first. Against Prospects starter Kyler Hanson, Fremont’s Josh Blount led off with a double. Then, Carson Burnett replaced Blount at second with a double of his own, scoring Blount, to make it 1-0. On the play, an errant throw from right field advanced Burnett to third base. Then, a wild pitch scored Burnett to give Fremont a 2-0 lead.
The Prospects cut the Fremont lead in half in the top of the second. With one out, Korey Cozad singled off Moo starter Gage Ingram. Then, Jacob Perrin doubled off the left field fence, putting runners at second and third. The next batter, Paul Schuyler, hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Cozad, to make it a 2-1 game.
Fremont added a run in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Jack Torosian singled. A ground out by Dylan Brandenburg advanced Torosian to second. Then, Grant Nottleman hit an rbi single, scoring Torosian, to make it a 3-1 Fremont lead.
The Moo put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth. Dylan Brandenburg led off with a walk and Grant Nottleman did the same. The Prospects went to the bullpen and brought in Charlie Mosser to pitch. Fremont’s Connor Petersen hit an rbi double to left, scoring Brandenburg, to make it 4-1. Then, Dean Reynolds reached on a fielder’s choice, scoring Nottleman, to put Fremont up 5-1. Two batters later, Carson Burnett singled to load the bases. With two outs, Fremont’s Stephen Espinoza came up with the most impactful hit of the game when he doubled to the left-center field gap, scoring three runs, to make it an 8-1 Moo lead.
In the top of the ninth, Fremont brought in Grant Wagner to pitch. After retiring the first two batters, a walk and a hit batsmen put runners at first and second. However, Wagner got Korey Cozad to hit into an inning-ending fielder’s choice, to end the game, giving Fremont an 8-1 victory.
Fremont (25-15, 12-4) scored eight runs off nine hits with no errors. The Prospects (6-20, 1-10) had one run off six hits and committed one error.
Moo starter Gage Ingram (2-0) earned the win. He pitched 8.0 innings, giving up one run off five hits, struck out three with no walks and hit one batter. Grant Wagner pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one hit, and hit one batter.
Prospects starter Kyler Hanson (1-1) took the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings, giving up four earned runs off six hits, struck out four, walked five, and had one wild pitch. Charlie Mosser pitched 2.0 innings, giving up three runs off three hits and struck out four. Keinan Lentell pitched 1.0 inning, struck out one and walked one.
Offensively for Fremont, Josh Blount was 2-for-4. Carson Burnett was 2-for-4 with an rbi. Stephen Espinoza was 1-for-4 with a three-rbi double. Grant Nottleman was 1-for-3 and drove in one run. Connor Petersen was 2-for-4 with an rbi. Dean Reynolds was 0-for-2 with one run batted in.
For The Prospects, Paul Schuyler went 0-for-3 with an rbi.
The Prospects are idle until Friday, July 19th, when they return to Fremont to play The Moo in a two-game series. Fremont has Monday off and will open a three-game series in Hastings versus The Sodbusters, beginning Tuesday night First pitch at Duncan Field is at 6:35 p.m.
