Fremont, Nebraska – Robert O’Malley was dominate in six innings on the mound and Carter Sintek’s two-run home run sparked The Fremont Moo in a 12-1 victory over The Bison in Independence League Baseball Association action Tuesday night at Historic Moller Field. Fremont claimed the first two games of the series from The Bison and will go for the sweep, Wednesday night.
After a scoreless first inning, Fremont got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second. With two outs against Bison starter Nick Golden, Fremont’s Dylan Brandenburg singled. Then, Connor Petersen hit an rbi double, bringing home Brandenburg, to make it 1-0. The next batter, Kayden Anderson, hit an rbi double, plating Petersen, to make it a 2-0 Fremont lead.
Fremont doubled its advantage in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Connor Petersen singled and Kayden Anderson did the same, to put runners at first and second. Then, Miles Meadows hit a two-rbi double, scoring Petersen and Anderson, putting Fremont ahead 4-0.
The Bison’s lone run came in the top of the sixth. Against Fremont starter Robert O’Malley, Jackson Takahashi led off with a single. Three batters later, Aiden Hall hit an rbi double, scoring Takahashi, to make the score, 4-1.
The Moo took control the remainder of the way. In the bottom of the sixth, Tyrus Petsche led off the inning with a triple. Two batters later, Connor Petersen flew out to Josh Meyers in center field for the second out. However, Petsche did not attempt to advance from third, but Meyers threw home nonetheless, and his throw sailed away from home plate, allowing Petsche to score, making it 5-1.
Fremont added three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Miles Meadows led off the inning with a single and Jack Torosian did the same, to put runners at first and third. An errant pickoff attempt to first base by Nick Golden allowed Meadows to score and Torosian advanced to second. A wild pitch advanced Torosian to third. With two outs, Carter Sintek hit the first pitch he saw from Golden over the “Moller Monster” in left field, making it an 8-1 Fremont lead.
The biggest inning for Fremont came in the bottom of the eighth. Against Bison reliever Alec Vincent, Kayden Anderson singled, with one out. He advanced to second, then third, on a pair of wild pitches. Miles Meadows drew a walk. Then, Jack Torosian hit an rbi single, scoring Anderson, to make it 9-1. Two batters later, Cooper Fuchino hit a two-rbi single, scoring Meadows and Torosian, to make it 11-1. The Bison went to the bullpen and brought in Alex Everson to pitch. He uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Fuchino to advance to second base. Then, Carter Sintek smacked an rbi double to score Fuchino. and put Fremont ahead, 12-1.
In the top of the ninth, Alex Oliver came on to close out the game. After striking out the first two batters, Mason Daniels drew a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. However, Oliver struck out Josh Meyers, swinging, for the final out of the game.
Fremont (29-18, 16-7) scored twelve runs off fifteen hits with no errors. The Bison (2-16, 2-16) had one run off five hits and committed two errors.
Moo starter Robert O’Malley (4-1) earned the win. He pitched 6.0 innings, giving up one run off five hits, struck out ten with no walks, committed one balk and had one wild pitch. Dylan Driessen pitched 2.0 innings and struck out five batters. Alex Oliver pitched 1.0 inning, struck out three and walked one.
Bison starter Nick Golden (0-2) took the loss. He pitched 7.0 innings, giving up six earned runs off eleven hits, struck out four, walked two, gave up the two-run home run to Carter Sintek, committed one balk and had one wild pitch. Alec Vincent pitched 0.2 innings, giving up four runs off three hits, struck out one, walked two and had two wild pitches. Alex Everson pitched 0.1 innings, and struck out one.
Offensively for Fremont, Jack Torosian was 2-for-5 with an rbi. Cooper Fuchino went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs. Carter Sintek was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and drove in three runs. Connor Petersen was 2-for-4 with an rbi. Kayden Anderson went 3-for-4 with an rbi. Miles Meadows was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
For The Bison, Aiden Hall was 1-for-4 with an rbi.
Fremont will go for the sweep of the series Wednesday night at Historic Moller Field, in the Moo’s final home game of the regular season. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
