The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Volleyball Team went 1-4 at the Wakefield Invite last week, losing 2-0 to Pierce and Ponca on Thursday before falling 2-0 to Hartington Cedar Catholic and Ponca on Saturday, but beating the host Trojans 2-1.

Jeff’s Pierce Recap:

The Bluejays won sets one and two 25-12. Samantha Roth and Avery Bacon each had 7 digs.

Jeff’s Thursday Ponca Recap:

The Indians won the first set 25-11 and the second set 25-19. Tavyanna Parker had 10 digs while Bacon and Roth added 8 and 7, respectively.

Jeff’s Hartington Cedar Catholic Recap:

The Trojans picked up a 25-22 set one win and took set two 25-11.

Jeff’s Wakefield Recap:

The Cougars won set one 25-21 and set three 25-20 after losing set two 25-17.

Jeff’s Saturday Ponca Recap:

The Indians took set one 25-19 and set two 25-20.

Jeff’s Cedar Bluffs Preview:

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (2-7) takes on Cedar Bluffs (3-6) on the road Thursday night. The Wildcats lost 2-0 to Dorchester and Nebraska Lutheran at the Dorchester Triangular Tuesday night.

Jeff’s Take on the Match:

I think Lyons-Decatur Northeast has a great chance to win this match. The Cougars play a tougher schedule and tougher brand of Volleyball. The matches against the Pierce’s and Ponca’s and Cedar Catholic’s of the World help prepare LDNE to play teams like Cedar Bluffs. I just don’t think the Wildcats have seen the caliber of competition that the Cougars have, and feel like Lyons-Decatur Northeast is maybe a step above Cedar Bluffs as a team.
