September 24th, 2024 | Jeff Axtell

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Football Team turned a major corner Friday night, winning 60-22 at home over Winside.

Jeff’s Game Recap:

The Cougars led 22-0 after the 1st quarter and 46-14 at halftime. LDNE won the 3rd quarter 8-6 to extend their lead to 54-20 at the end of three. The Cougars tripled up the Wildcats 6-2 in the 4th quarter. Landen Cooper had 18 carries for 175 yards and two touchdowns while Gavin Hardeman had 17 carries for 131 yards and two scores. Kwyntin Kampa added 4 carries for 76 yards and a score. Hardeman made 18 tackles while Garret Vavra registered 8. Lyons-Decatur Northeast had 493 yards of total offense, including 450 rushing. The defense gave up 340 yards of total offense, 231 coming on the ground. Head Coach Ryan Miller says his team was hitting on all cylinders.

Miller adds it was all-around great performance by his team.

Jeff’s Wynot Preview:

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (2-2) takes on Wynot (2-2) on the road Friday night. The defending Class D-2 State Runner-Up Blue Devils won 50-12 at Randolph last week. Miller discusses the keys to beating a great team like Wynot.

Jeff’s Take on the Contest:

This should be a great game. Archangels Catholic beat Winside 54-8 and Wynot 50-14 so that means to me that Wynot and Winside aren’t all that different of teams. I really feel like this is a golden opportunity for the Cougars to go into Wynot and leave town with a humungous victory. I think it could definitely happen too. LDNE simply has to bring it the way they did last week and be physical. The Cougars have to impose their will on the Blue Devils like they did the Wildcats last week. This is a very intriguing game in my mind.
