FREMONT, Neb. – Midland University is excited to announce the addition of Jazmyne Laskey as the new assistant coach for the women’s basketball team. Laskey joins the staff of newly appointed head coach Chris Burks, bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the program.

Laskey’s coaching career includes stops at Iowa Wesleyan University (2020-2021) and Friends University (2022-2024), where she served as an assistant coach. During her tenure at Iowa Wesleyan, she also stepped in as the interim head coach midseason.

A former standout player at Southwestern College, Laskey earned her degree in Business Administration in 2020. She furthered her education by obtaining a master’s degree in Leadership and Athletic Administration from Iowa Wesleyan (2022). While playing at Southwestern, she was coached by Coach Burks who witnessed her dedication to the game.

“What made me want to bring Jaz in was everything she was as a player, she is as a person,” commented Coach Burks. “Jaz is loyal, determined, dedicated, hardworking, and self-motivated. She will be able to come right in and make the program better. I am extremely excited to have her a part of the staff. She is a leader and winner, in every definition of the words.”

In addition to coaching collegiate athletes, Coach Laskey has coached at the grassroots level with the Oklahoma City Thunder Youth Basketball program in Oklahoma City, as well as the College Coaches Skills Camp in Wichita, Kansas.

“Jaz’s main role will be in leading our defense. Her IQ is among the best that I have ever seen out of all the players that I have coached in my career,” added Coach Burks. “Defense is her forte, so I know she will bring a level of excitement and energy to that end of the floor. She will also have a hand in recruiting and game day operations.”
