Kiviniemi earns second NSAA weekly honor

BISMARCK, N.D. — For the second time this season and the fourth time in her BU career, junior rightside hitter Kealy Kiviniemi has been named the North Star Athletic Association Attacker of the Week for her performances in the Bruins’ three wins last week. 

Kiviniemi helped the No. 7-ranked Bruins down Hastings (3-2), Valley City State (3-1), and Mayville (3-0) last week, improving to an 18-3 record and a 4-1 mark in the NSAA. 

Kiviniemi started the week with 19 kills on .472 hitting along with two blocks in BU’s five-set win at Hastings. She followed that up with a career-high 22 kills on .568 hitting while adding four blocks in the Bruins’ four-set win over VCSU. In the final match of the week, Kiviniemi registered 11 kills and hit .348 with four digs and two blocks in the sweep over the Comets. 

Kiviniemi has now recorded five straight matches with double-figure kill totals and has had 19 or more kills in three of the last four matches. 

In the latest NSAA Statistics, Kiviniemi leads the conference with 266 kills and a .372 hitting percentage. She ranks third in kills per set with 3.45.  

The Bruins will host the Marvel Classic this Friday-Saturday, Oct. 11-12, in the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
