Iowa State Women headed back to NCAA Tournament

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women’s basketball team has been selected to face Maryland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones will play in the first round on Friday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Iowa State earned the No. 7 seed and Maryland enters as the No. 10 seed. The winner will advance to play the winner of the No. 2-seed Stanford vs. No. 15 Norfolk State. The second round matchup would take place Sunday, March 24 at a time to be determined.

The Cyclones will play in their 22nd NCAA Tournament with all appearances coming under head coach Bill Fennelly. Iowa State has played in 15 of the last 17 NCAA Tournaments.

ISU enters the tournament following its second-consecutive appearance in the Big 12 Championship game. Despite losing 77 percent of its scoring contributions from a season ago, Iowa State earned the No. 4 seed in the Big 12 Championships and a double bye to knock off No. 17 Baylor (No. 5 seed), 67-62, in the quarterfinals and No. 17 Oklahoma (No. 1 seed), 85-68, in the semifinals. The Cyclones fell to No. 5 Texas (No. 2 seed) in the title game.
