Howells-Dodge Girls finish 3rd at State in Class D-2

The Howells-Dodge Girls Basketball Team took 3rd at State over the weekend, winning 52-44 over Sandhills/Thedford in the 1st round at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Wednesday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull before falling 57-43 to Overton in Friday night’s State Semifinals from the Devaney Center in action also aired on the Bull. The Jaguars then won 46-28 over Falls City Sacred Heart in Saturday’s 3rd place game from Lincoln East also aired on the Bull.

Jeff’s Sandhills/Thedford Recap:

The Jaguars and Knights were tied at 16 after one before Sandhills/Thedford won the 2nd quarter 13-11 to take a 29-27 lead into the locker room. Howells-Dodge outscored the Knights 14-8 in the 3rd quarter to pull ahead 41-37 at the end of three. The Jaguars won the 4th quarter 11-7. Kenadie Throener and Jordyn Ratzlaff each had 10 points while Kylie Brichacek, Jade Bayer, and Peyten Becker notched 9 apiece.

Jeff’s Overton Recap:

The Eagles doubled up the Jaguars 20-10 in the 1st quarter before Howells-Dodge won the 2nd quarter 11-6 to make it a 26-21 game at halftime. Overton won the 3rd quarter 12-9 to extend their lead to 38-30 at the end of three. The Eagles won the 4th quarter 19-13. Brichacek had 11 points and 7 rebounds while Ratzlaff notched 8 points and 8 rebounds. Bayer added 8 points.

Falls City Sacred Heart Game Recap:

The Jaguars led 14-6 after one and 19-13 at halftime. Howells-Dodge won the 3rd quarter 13-8 to go up 32-21 at the end of three. The Jaguars doubled up the Irish 14-7 in the 4th quarter. Bayer had 14 points to lead the Jaguars while Throener scored 9, all in the 1st half.

End of Season Synopsis:

It was a really special ending to the season for Howells-Dodge. The Jaguars end their year at 15-11. Ratlzaff led the team in scoring and rebounding with 301 points and 132 rebounds on the season. Howells-Dodge loses just one Senior to graduation in Natalie Pieper. Everyone else is back next year. Howells-Dodge should have a great chance to make another run next season. The Jaguars have to build off their great finish this year and hit the ground running next year. There’s no doubt that Howells-Dodge can get back to State next year and make another run. This team is going to be loaded with talent once again next season.
