A ban on flavored milk could be coming to elementary and middle schools across the country in a consideration by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The considered ban includes chocolate and strawberry milk.

According to the report, the USDA sites concerns about the amount of sugar in flavored milk and is considering two options. One option limits flavored milk to only high school students and the other option allows it to stay. Both, however, include a proposed added sugar limit for flavored milk.

An 8 oz serving of chocolate milk contains approximately 25 grams of sugar, while the same amount of Coca Cola has 26 grams of sugar.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a decision on this matter will be reached early next year and implementation will begin in 2025.
