April 1st, 2024 | College of Saint Mary Athletics

OMAHA, Neb. — The College of Saint Mary softball team was swept by Nebraska Wesleyan University in a double-header on Monday afternoon. The Prairie Wolves took a 10-1 victory in game one before securing a 11-0 run-rule win in the nightcap.

The Flames have now dropped six-straight to fall to 7-13 overall while Nebraska Wesleyan improves to 17-4 on the season.

“We aren’t happy with the losses, but we’ve had some adversity to deal with so we really just needed to get out on the field,” CSM coach Carolyn Todd Bray said. “We hadn’t played in 12 days and so we needed to get some rust off before we head into conference play later this week. We did some good things today and we know these games helped us improve.”

Coach Bray went on to add, “credit to coach Mary Yori. She’s got a great squad with some fifth-year seniors and they are playing like veterans.”

Game One: Nebraska Wesleyan 10, CSM 1

Val Gerlach, Taylor Korecky, and Bre Schneidewind all homered for Nebraska Wesleyan as NWU pounded out 15 hits in the opener.

Gerlach put the Prairie Wolves on the board with a three-run shot in the first inning off College of Saint Mary starter Shaylynn Campbell.

Campbell settled in from there until Korecky touched her for a two-run blast in the fourth and Schneidewind added a solo shot in the top of the sixth.

Daisy Lowther doubled home Lindsay Ohnoutka to put the Flames on the board in the sixth. Cassie Wiseman attempted to score on the play but was thrown out on the play.

NWU tacked on four more runs in the seventh to account for the final margin.

Paige Stuck doubled twice in a 2-for-4 effort to lead the Flames at the dish.

Nebraska Wesleyan sent 14 batters to the plate in a 10-run first inning as the Prairie Wolves jumped all over College of Saint Mary early en route to another comfortable victory.
