OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton Softball delivered a third consecutive run-rule victory as the Bluejays swept Georgetown with an 11-2 win on Saturday, March 30.
The victory lifted the Bluejays to 21-14 on the season and 6-3 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown fell to 10-22 overall and 1-11 in conference play.
The Hoyas scratched the scoreboard for the first time in the series in the opening inning as Dayanara Campos connected on a home run to center, plating a pair as Macie Levitt was hit by a pitch.
Creighton responded quickly with a run in the first courtesy of an RBI walk to Ella Dalton, then pushed across four in the both the second and third innings. The Bluejays’ four-run second saw Cayla Nielsen knot the game at 2-2 with an RBI single through the left side, then Madeline Vejvoda lace a two-run double down the left field line. With two down in the frame Emma Rosonke connected on an RBI single through the right side to make it 5-2.
The offense went right back to work in the third with a single from Erika Perez, a sacrifice bunt, a single from Ashten Pierson and a sac fly from Lily West to make it 6-2. Cayla Nielsen worked a walk to put runners at first and second, then Vejvoda delivered another two-run double to left-center. Sydney Potter followed with an RBI double down the left field line to extend the Bluejay edge to 9-2.
Three consecutive singles in the fifth from Dalton, Perez and Sydra Sevile made it 10-2, while the second sacrifice fly of the day from West put Creighton up 11-2.
Bluejay starter Natalia Puchino earned the win (14-2), limiting Georgetown to two runs on two hits and two walks in five innings. Georgetown starter Kayla Dunn took the loss (4-9), alllowing 11 runs on 12 hits in four innings.
Nielsen and Vejvoda closed the day with two hits each. Vejcoda went 2-for-2 with a walk and four RBI.
Creighton returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 in a road game against Omaha. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
