OMAHA, Neb. — The Creighton men’s basketball team improved two spots to 17th in the Associated Press poll and two lines to 16th in the USA Today Coaches poll released on Monday. The Bluejays also remained No. 16 in the updated version of the NET and at No. 26  in the KPI.

It’s the 14th time in 15 polls this season that Creighton has been included in both the AP and Coaches rankings.

Creighton went 1-1 last week, losing in overtime at Providence before winning at Xavier, to move to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in BIG EAST games.

Creighton’s best AP ranking in program history is seventh, done five times (Jan. 16, 2017, March 10, 2020, March 18, 2020, Jan. 7, 2021 and Nov. 28, 2022). CU owns 27 weeks in the AP Top 10 in its history, with all but one of those recognitions coming during Greg McDermott‘s tenure. Creighton’s best AP rank this year is eighth, done three times.

Including today’s ranking, Creighton has now been ranked by the AP 135 times in program history, with 108 of those under the direction of McDermott. Creighton is 167-70 all-time as a ranked team, including a 133-58 figure under McDermott. Creighton has been ranked at least one week in 10 of McDermott’s 14 seasons on The Hilltop after doing it just five different seasons in program history before his 2010 arrival.

Creighton is one of three BIG EAST Conference schools in the top 25, joining No. 1 Connecticut and No. 4 Marquette. The top five teams in the poll are Connecticut, Purdue, Houston, Marquette and Arizona.

Creighton is also one of five schools in the country with both its men’s and women’s teams ranked in this week’s AP Top 25, joining Baylor, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Connecticut.

The Bluejays return to the court on Tuesday night when they host Georgetown at 7:30 p.m. on FS1. It’ll be Fan Appreciation Night at CHI Health Center Omaha, with $1 beverages available after doors open from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
