Creighton Baseball takes Butler series

Omaha, Neb. — Creighton Baseball rallied from down 4-1 to claim the series with a 10-7 win over Butler on Sunday, April 7.

The win lifted Creighton to 24-5 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST action, while Butler dropped to 13-16 overall and 1-2 in conference contests.

Trailing 4-1 as the game moved to the bottom of the fourth, the Bluejays delivered back-to-back frames of two runs to take a 5-4 edge. Jack Grace and Cuyler Zukowski bounced singles into the outfield to open the fourth. One out later Hogan Helligso singled to left to load the bases. Ben North followed with a sacrifice fly to center, while Nolan Sailors made it 4-3 with an RBI single up the middle.

With one down in the fifth the Bluejays got rolling with a walk to Will MacLean, then Grace reached on an error. Zukowski followed with a two-run double to center as Creighton seized a 5-4 advantage.

A four-run seventh gave Creighton the breathing room to withstand a three-run frame from Butler in the eighth. The Bluejays’ plated four runs on one hit, two walks, two hit batters and a pair of missed outs on fielder’s choices.

Bluejay reliever Shane Curtin picked up the win (2-0), holding Butler to two runs on six hits over 3.2 innings, while Butler reliever Simon Linda fell to 0-2. Linde allowed an unearned run on one hit in one inning of work.

Four Bluejays finished with two hits each as North went 2-for-3 with three RBI, Colby Canales was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Sailors was 2-for-4 with two RB and Zukowski finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Bluejays face Omaha on Tuesday in a road game at Tal Anderson Field at 6:00 p.m.
