SIOUX CITY, Iowa – A victory was just what the doctor ordered Friday night for the College of Saint Mary volleyball team.

Coming off a pair of frustrating losses, the Flames battled past Briar Cliff 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match at the Newman Flanagan Center.

“We got a much-needed win on the road tonight,” Flames Coach Rick Pruett said. “I am proud that we were able to get the job done.”

CSM improved to 12-8 overall and 3-4 in league play, while the Chargers dropped to 6-13 and 0-7.

One of the keys to the win was the intelligent play of setters Miranda Ring and Kaitlyn Busby in the 6-2 offense, Pruett said.

“Our setters did a good job distributing the ball and getting all the hitters involved, but also feeding the hot hitters when we needed a kill,” he said.

The Flames head coach also credited Azaria Green with a strong match in the middle.

CSM completes its weekend GPAC tour of Sioux City on Saturday with a 3 p.m. match against Morningside.

* The College of Saint Mary also won the junior varsity match by scores of 25-23, 23-25 and 15-11.
