The Central Community College women’s basketball team lost to the Midland University JV, 59-58, on Tuesday night in Fremont.

The Warriors pulled away from the Raiders with a 24-13 performance in the second quarter to take a 37-28 lead at halftime. CCC began to make up lost ground in the fourth quarter and pulled to within 59-58 in the final two minutes and the scoring stalled. Over the final 20 seconds, the Raiders missed three potential game-winning shots before the final horn sounded.

“We struggled to hit some outside shots in the second and third quarter and again we turned the ball over too many times, which led to Midland’s easy transition buckets,” said CCC head coach Kasi Stoltz. “We held them to five points in the fourth quarter and had a couple of chances to win it at the buzzer, the shots just didn’t go down.”

Madisen Jelinek led CCC in scoring with 16 points while Nyamiri Blair scored 11 points. Amy Mitchell finished with 10 points.

The loss gives the Raiders an 8-11 season record. CCC returns to action on Friday with a road contest against the Peru State University JV. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
