CCC Volleyball beats Southwestern and Western Iowa Tech to open season

The Central Community College volleyball team won both matches in a triangular at the Raider Fieldhouse on Saturday. A brief recap of each match is below. CCC is 2-0 and will return to action on Wednesday against Cloud County (Kan.) Community College. The first serve is set for 6 p.m. at the Raider Fieldhouse.

Match 1 vs. Southwestern (Iowa) Community College

The Raiders defeated the Spartans, 3-0. The final scores were 25-7, 25-7 and 25-19. Josie Bentz led CCC in kills with 10. Libbie Ball tallied 18 assists while Marin Reilly topped the Raiders in digs with 10.

“Against Southwestern Iowa, we executed our game plan flawlessly, dominating from the first serve with strong contributions from everyone on the court,” said CCC head coach Mary Young. “Josie Bentz‘s 10 kills and Libbie Ball‘s 18 assists and three aces really set the tone. Ashtyn Heikes and Marin Reilly were also exceptional, with Ashtyn’s 12 assists and three aces and Marin’s 10 digs.”

Match 2 vs. Western Iowa Tech Community College

The Raiders downed the Comets in a 3-2 victory. CCC took the first set, 25-19, followed by Western Iowa Tech tying the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second set. The Raiders won the match with a 25-16 win in the third game and a 25-20 victory the fourth set.

Reilly totaled 16 kills and Lauryn Scott chipped in 13. Ball amassed 50 assists while Reilly and Maleigha each tallied 16 digs.

“In the Western Iowa Tech match, we were tested a bit more and showed a lot of resilience and teamwork,” Young said. “Marin Reilly was outstanding with 16 kills, 16 digs, and two block assists. Libbie Ball‘s 50 assists and 10 digs, along with Lauryn Scott‘s 13 kills and three blocks, were key to our success. Maleigha Johnson‘s 16 digs were critical in keeping us strong defensively. Overall, I’m excited to see how we will continue to grow this season.”
