Briar Cliff Volleyball swept by Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa – Junior Avery Beller went over 1000 career digs as the Briar Cliff University volleyball team (0-4 GPAC, 6-10) lost 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-11) to Waldorf (1-2 GPAC, 7-5), Wednesday night at Hanson Fieldhouse.

In the first set, Briar Cliff and Waldorf played on even terms early on.  Senior Taryn Nothem spiked the ball to the floor to tie the match at 6-6.

The Warriors scored five in a row and extended their lead to 13-8.  The Chargers began to fight back.

BCU forced an error to close to 13-11.  Waldorf went on a 7-2 run to seal the set.

In the second set, Briar Cliff came out hot.  Senior Olivia Corey served up the first four points with three of them being aces.

The Warriors came back to tie it at 9-9.  From there, the teams were trading points until 20-20.  Waldorf went ahead 22-20.

Senior Kiersten Baker blasted the ball off the block to make it 22-21.  The Warriors scored the next three points to take the set.

In the third set, the Chargers and Waldorf battled to a 7-7 tie.  The Warriors scored four straight to go up 11-7.

BCU refused to quit and pulled to two, 12-10.  Waldorf scored three straight points to effectively end the match.

For Briar Cliff, sophomore Emma Brenelli had eight kills.  Beller collected 15 digs, her 17th straight double-digit dig match.  Beller now has 1006 career digs, the 19th Charger to hit this milestone. 

For Waldorf, Anna Longhenry had 12 kills and hit .391 while Kenzie Kidd had 11 digs.

Briar Cliff returns home, Wednesday, Sept. 25 taking on Morningside.  The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
